Good Trouble Lives On: Candlelight Vigil

  • Salem Common Bandstand North Washington Square Salem, MA, 01970 United States (map)

Weather permitting, North Shore Indivisible will hold a candlelight vigil in front of the Salem Common Bandstand as its final event for Good Trouble Lives On, a national day of action to respond to the attacks posed on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration. We will join activists around the country in taking to the streets to remind the Trump Administration and MAGA politicians that in America, the the power lies with the people

During our candlelight vigil, we will listen to excerpts from John Lewis’ speeches throughout his career as a civil rights leader and politician. We will also observe 80 seconds of silence to honor Lewis’s the 80 years of his life. The vigil will last about 25 minutes; LED candles will be provided to participants.

About Good Trouble Lives On

Coined by Congressman John Lewis, "Good Trouble" is the act of coming together to take peaceful, nonviolent action to challenge injustice and create meaningful change. Good Trouble is any action where communities come together, take a stand against wrongdoings, and speak truth to power.

The civil rights leaders of the past have shown us the power of collective action. That’s why on this fifth anniversary of Congressman John Lewis’s passing, North Shore Indivisible invites you to join us to Make Good Trouble Together. This day of action is moral reckoning and a continuation of the movement Congressman Lewis helped lead.

Please note: North Shore Indivisible will hold a protest and public art action on July 17th at 4 PM at the Swampscott Memorial as part of its Good Trouble Lives On programming. For details, please see this event listing.

A core principle behind our Good Trouble Lives On actions is a commitment to nonviolence in all we do. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
