Additional Details:

D-Day, June 6, 1944 was the day the Allies landed in Normandy to begin the liberation of France from Hitler’s control during World War II, the largest seaborne invasion in history. Under the command of General Dwight Eisenhower 24,000 British, Canadian and American forces landed after Allied airborne and naval assault. The operation laid the foundations of the Allied victory on the Western Front, liberating France and Europe from Nazi control. Allied casualties were at least 10,000, with 4,414 confirmed dead.

Our rally will be peaceful and respectful of the gravity of veterans’ service and sacrifice.

We will carry American flags, the flags they honored and defended with their service and lives.

We seek the preservation of the democracy that they fought and died to protect.

We will hold signs to protest cuts to the Veterans Affairs (VA).

Signs and flags should be respectful and patriotic. Examples of appropriate messages include:

• RESTORE CUTS TO THE VA

• RESPECT THOSE WHO SERVED

• NO CUTS TO VETS SERVICES

• SUPPORT OUR VETS

• 80,000 STAFF CUTS AT THE VA

• STOP V.A. STAFF CUTS

• STOP CUTS TO VETS MENTAL HEALTH

• 30% OF FEDERAL WORKERS ARE VETS / STOP MASS FIRINGS

• KEEP VETS CRISIS LINE

• FUND RESEARCH ON VETS HEALTH ISSUES

• DON’T PRIVATIZE VA HEALTHCARE

• VETS USE MEDICAID AND FOOD STAMPS TOO!

• DON’T DE-FUND PROGRAMS FOR HOMELESS VETS
